Whether you are new to scrapbooking or already have a few albums on your shelves, the beginning of a new year is a great time to think about your scrapbooking goals for the coming year.  Perhaps one of those goals is starting, or starting and actually finishing,  your first project life album.  Thinking about completing a year long project can be both daunting and a bit scary – but like anything that takes a little patience and perseverance, a fair amount of time and work (not to mention a lot of love), it is so worth it in the end!

One of the things that might intimidate you about starting a project life album is the misconception that you need a lot of new supplies to get started.  There is certainly no denying that there are a ton of awesome products out there to suit your scrapping fancy, and having even just a few great go-to templates and versatile products can help you keep focused and rolling forward as the weeks progress.  Before you go out and buy a ton of new supplies I would encourage you to think about using the kits you already have in your project life pages.  Be creative.  Challenge yourself.  Use your favorite kits in a new way; I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised by what you are able to create!  Seeing how awesome your pages turn out with some of your favorite supplies will help keep you motivated and inspired to continue your pages throughout the year.

Now, this isn’t to say you shouldn’t splurge a little on yourself and add some new and exciting products to your scrapping repertoire. Perhaps you even picked up Shawna’s new release, “Life Basics: Hello Life Starter Set.”  Did you know this set coordinates perfectly with Shawna’s “6 Simple Rules“? Imagine the possibilities for creating your Project Life with this colorful duo!

I am beginning my third year as a Project Life scrapper, and although I have acquired a rather large collection of Project Life supplies, I continue to return to some of my favorite kits when completing my pages.  For example, I used one of my favorite kits “Calling All Heroes” by Shawna in my Project Life spread the week my husband completed his third marathon.  I love the bold, primary colors in this kit and the word art fit perfectly with the stories I wanted to tell for that week.Week43A600x600Week43B600x600

The week of Thanksgiving, I loved bringing out Shawna’s kit “Fun-ky Fall” from my stash and using it to capture some of my favorite moments from the week!Week47A600x600-copyWeek47B600x600-copy

As you can see, I used the same templates and background papers for both of my spreads.  Having these two things in place when I go to do my layouts each week helps keep me organized and focused.  I’ve allowed my creativity to come out –and had a lot of fun– creating these two unique layouts with products I already had in my digital stash.   I encourage you to look inside  your digital scrapbooking files  and pull out some inspiration for your Project Life pages this year!  We look forward to seeing what you create with Shawna Clingerman Design products in 2014!
